Stockwatch integration of ATS data?

MoneyInMotion

Question

Hi Jerry,

I currently use QuoteTracker and understand the beta Medved Trader version has Stockwatch support. My question is:

Will the new Medved Trader integrate ALL the Canadian Alternative Trading Systems (ATS) data info which Stockwatch provides? As far as I know, Stockwatch is the only one that provides this to the retail investor. The big Banks only provide TSX and TSX Venture exchange data

If you are not familiar with Canadian ATS, they now account for 35% of all trading volume of Canadian Stocks. From Stockwatch's website:

"The new ATS (Alternative Trading System) has been available for Stockwatch users since 2011. The ATS's trade the same stocks that are listed on the TSX and TSX Venture exchanges. You can subscribe to ATS data on the Subscription Options page. ATS data will be available for: Alpha Trading Systems, Chi-X Canada, Pure Trading, Omega ATS, TMX Select, TriAct Canada, and LiquidNet"  There are more on the block. Aequitas, is a new proposed exchange backed by Barclays and Royal Bank of Canada.

Thanks

...we do not show which exchange a trade is from on the Raw Data window...

understood that this data is Stockwatch-only and so only of interest to a subset of MT users.

BUT

For Canadian stocks, it would be very useful to have the option of recording/displaying this, plus the identity of buying/selling brokers on each trade (also provided by Stockwatch.)

Recording this extra data on active symbols in real time may create performance bottlenecks, so maybe it can be skipped and later retrieved via backfill for symbols with a high trade rate?

Understood,

BUT

In order to store the data for any source, I would have to increase the size of the records storing the data for everyone. Right now the data can easily grow to multiple gigabytes if someone has a tick datafeed for a bunch of really active symbols. Increasing the record size would mean at least 25% increase in size for everyone. And that is not just disk space. That would apply to memory usage as well.... For everyone, not just the people using Stockwatch with ATS subscription.   That is why we didn't implement this.

Right, maybe at a later stage it would be possible to have a "custom database" or "alternate database" layout to permit this, for those that need it?

Not saying it should be high priority, but there is some REALLY useful data in the Stockwatch feed that otherwise just gets thrown away.
