stock777
Seeing consistent high cpu in the last week, probably since the last build. Seems to come and go, but overall much more usage than normal (35-50% cpu for long periods)
Jerry Medved
do you have MT excluded from the security software? If not, do so. If Windows Defender, then refer to https://medvedtrader.com/wd if other, let me know which If that does not fix, send me the logs.
stock777
Did those exclusions long ago. Microsoft Security Essentials. Had a hunch it might be the large SDATA file (up to 1.5 gig on my machine) or ,maybe some corrupted data in there So I deleted it and started fresh. Seems to have fixed the problem for now. Only reason I don't like deleting that, is you lose the intraday IB futures data going back more than 10 days.
Jerry Medved
instead of deleting, you can go to SETTINGS / CHARTS /GENERAL and check the box to consolidate on next startup
stock777
I'll try that , but if there was an issue with the data, I assume that might not fix it. I already have it set to compress tick data after 1 day. Does consolidate do more than that?
Jerry Medved
Yes, it recreates the data file, so if the old one had a lot of empty space, it will be significantly compressed.
stock777
Here's what I'm seeing. Startup MT , after a while high cpu usage (35% avg) . Stays high If I STOP a few port feeds (I only have three open) and restart them , the CPU usage drops to avg 15% or less and stays there. Make any sense as to why that would be? I should also mention I turn on a scan for these ports. Edited July 18, 2018 by stock777
stock777
Just to keep things interesting, I did not have a problem today. I'll keep an eye on it

stock777
lol, yeah, I know. been good for a few days, so might have been something anomalous. Edited July 23, 2018 by stock777
stock777
Afraid it did it again today. Not sure what kicks off the cpu burn. Nothing I tried brought down the high use. Had to close , restart, which seems to have cured it for now
stock777
problem again, after some time it just eats cpu. any way for me to tell what process in mt is causing this? Looks like loading a new symbol in my linked charts , cases a big spike for a 45 secs to a minute . then its dropping back on its own . Symbol can already be in a live port, so its not new data . Only thing new would be the L2 Slightly diff than before, where it was just high cpu consistently, with no action on my part. stock777
Reproducible. Every time I change charting/l2 symbols cpu spikes for a lot longer than it takes to populate the data. Seems to resolve on its own Edited July 25, 2018 by stock777
stock777
Well, any reason for cpu use to spike for 45 seconds after a few boxes populate? It slows response to other activities during this time. normal avg about 12-15% with brief spikes higher. Here it goes into the mid 30's Ive seen it where it stays elevated, lately is drops back on its own Symbols already in an active port, so its not loading all fresh data. stock777
I'm still seeing this high cpu thing for a good 45 seconds AFTER I switch symbols on a few charts/L2 . Doesn't seem like it should be doing this . On the order of 15% normal to cpu spiking 35-40 for almost a minute. Have amtd backfill set to only 21 days, so dont think thats it. Any idea what this could be and what I could do to test it /avoid it ?
Jerry Medved
last I saw, we had an issue with you where one of the windows locked up (remember I asked for an image if that happens). Not sure what would cause what you are describing. Is it something that is easy to reproduce when the markets are closed?
stock777
That window lockup never happened after that. No idea what caused it. You may have tweaked something in a later build or it was just an anomaly. The cpu spike is easy to reproduce. Happens every time. Pretty sure it does it after hours as well.
