  1. "Please do FILE / HELP / Check For Updates, then restart MT even if no updates were listed. Then try again. If you still have a problem, clear the data, then backfill and let me know the result " Before doing the above, I had about 12 to 13 days showing in intraday charts, depending on the symbol. After doing it, I am seeing 10 days again, even if I request a period of 20 days...
  2. Hi, I had the problem re-occur, and I said I would let you know if it did.... It started after I opened a 2nd portfolio, looked at some charts of the symbols in the portfolio, and then closed the 2nd portfolio. That left the 1st portfolio still open, and when I clicked on a symbol in it, the chart would disappear. "Now when the problem occurs, click on the chart's icon on the task bar. Does it come up? and does clicking on the portfolio again hide the chart? If it does, close the chart and re-open it. Does that fix it? " Yes that fixed it. LOL - EDIT, after I entered the text in this post above, I went back to MT, and the issue is back. without having opened and closed a 2nd portfolio.... Ok, after further messing about, I am finding that if I switch out of MT to go to a non MT window such as my browser, or email client, and then come back to MT, the problem is back. BUT swithing to another app did not cause problems earlier.... So sequence of events were: Switch to 2nd portfolio, and close it 1st portfolio hides chart Open and close chart - this fixes it Switch out of MT to another application, come back to MT, issue comes back Open and close chart - this fixes it Switch out of MT to another application, come back to MT, issue comes back BUT I was switching in and out of MT before opening and closing a 2nd portfolio so portfolio switching may not have anything to do with it.... And I have been switching in and out of MT to other apps earlier and the problem did not occur, so its intermittent... I did the following test and that did resolve it: Completely close MT Open MT Switch to other app like browser Go back to MT Problem now does not occur....
  3. Sorry, Jerry if I misinterpreted what you were meaning... Ok, currently: SETTINGS / DATA SOURCES / Configure Accounts, Yahoo > max # of days for backfill is 19 SETTINGS / CHARTS / GENERAL > Max number of days of intra day data is set at 60 On an intraday chart under Main tab: Period is set to 19 days Backfill is set to Yahoo Default number of days displayed is always since Monday - on Thursday it displayed from Monday to Thursday, on Fri from Mon to Fri, and today which is Sat, it displays Mon thru Fri - looks like MT is set to display from the beginning of a week Clicking "Backfill with OHLC" results in 10 days being displayed "Backfill using" is set to and when re-selected to Yahoo, results in 10 days being displayed So not able to see more than 10 days, and feeling a little overwhelmed by all the settings...
  4. Hi, "if you click on the Backfill Button (vs just counting on it to be automatically backfilled), does it fill in? " Well it fills in to 10 days of data, not 19. " If not, check the Max of days on intraday charts on SETTINGS / CHARTS / GENERAL ... " I think you mean SETTINGS / DATA SOURCES / Configure Accounts, select Yahoo and change the max # of days for backfill to 19? That is the current setting. So currently: SETTINGS / DATA SOURCES / Configure Accounts, Yahoo > max # of days for backfill is 19 On an intraday chart under Main tab: Period is set to 19 days Backfill is set to Yahoo Clicking "Backfill with OHLC" results in 10 days being displayed "Backfill using" is set to and re-select to Yahoo and results in 10 days being displayed Not sure if I have missed something....
  5. Dear Jerry and Mike, I am really happy that you have made MT available. Also thanks very much for your great support on my questions. I have used QuoteTracker in the past, and look forward to using MT. To give back, I was wondering if you would like some support in creating or developing further a wiki/knowledge base/support section, etc? I tend to document for myself what I learn about MT, and I am happy to document it online so other can see it. I don't think I have the time to document everything about MT, I mean just more what I learn and the basics, in the hope that others will be motivated to add to it as well. I am a retired professor and am comfortable about writing this kind of material. Please let me know.
  6. Just to confirm: Please correct me if I am wrong but one cannot enter and save a unique box height value per symbol, is that correct? Oh, well that is good that Renko is easier
  7. Hi Mike, Thanks very much for your level of interest in my post. I just wanted to first explain my motivation for asking..... I took some screen captures of 2 charts but I don't see a way to insert them into this post. So I will just describe and give details if you want to reproduce them. Chart 1 - 6 months, historical, Renko, box height 0.25, Symbol CSE.TO - This shows just a single box for the 6 months, has a bottom price of 3.25 to a top price of 3.5. A single box for 6 months of data does not seem enough info. One could argue that that is still usuable, but if you change chart type to OHLC, you will see the price almost goes down to 3 and up to 3.75. I.e. price movements between 3 and 3.25 and between 3.5 and 3.75 are not displayed. I think this is chopping out significant data. Chart 2 - Same settings, Symbol CP.TO - Price over 6 months fluctuates between ~ 158 and 210, and the box size is so small that is starts to look similar to a OHLC chart, ie the Renko chart is not filtering out small price movements. Of course, one could say one needs to enter a unique box height value for each chart/symbol, but that becomes tedious if one has to enter this height each time one views a different chart, and there are 100s of charts. Please correct me if I am wrong but one cannot enter and save a unique box height value per symbol, is that correct? I would understand if that is not possible at the moment because I imagine you would have to programmatically save a box height per symbol...and this would take a lot of work..... So a compromise to not being able to save a unique box height per symbol is to use a % of price. Hence my original post. So to respond to your question - I am not at all a Renko expert so I am not sure if there is a best practice for calculating box height as price varies over time. IMHO a fixed box height based on % of price at reversal time, per up or down column/trend would be fine. IMHO this is already a huge improvement over using a fixed height.
  8. Hi, Is there a way to change the box height calculation for Renko charts? I am not able to find any settings for Renko charts.... It seems fixed at 0.25 at the moment. I would like to use a % of price.
  9. Thanks Jerry, I now do have Yahoo set up to load 19 days of backfill for intraday charts. In the Dashboard I have the Backfill source and the Hist BF source selected as Yahoo. Yet if I select a custom period of 19 days in an Intraday chart, then only the last 10 days are still displayed. Also for some symbols if I select 10 days the chart shows 3 days plus the current (not concluded) day.
  10. Thanks Jerry again for your quick response and updating the software! "Do you have a brokerage account with any of the supported brokers?" Not at the moment. I am in Canada and I am considering getting a Royal Bank account just to be able to use it with MT. "Please select FILE / HELP / Check for Updates in MT (Dashboard or Portfolio window)" I did that and was informed that I have the latest version of all files. I have version 1.0.9741.1653 "After that, go to SETTINGS / DATA SOURCES / Configure Accounts, select Yahoo and change the max # of days for backfill to whatever you need. Default is 10. Max is currently 19." I did that. Setting was already at 19. Now able to get 10 days shown on the chart but not more. If I choose All data for the Period then 10 days is shown. If I choose 20 days as a custom Period then 10 days is shown.... Hmmm - Sorry if I dont understand but when I go to SETTINGS / DATA SOURCES / Configure Accounts/ Show at top, I have: Google Yahoo If I select Google then the max Intraday backfill is 10. If I select Yahoo then then max Intraday backfill is 19. If I highlight Yahoo (yellow background) and click Ok to close the Settings screen and then open the Settings screen, then Google is highlighted. So I am not clear on the meaning of "Show at top" - I thought it is meant to be any easy way to select favorite data sources. But it does not seem to save my selection. Ie if I select Yahoo and then come back to the screen, Google is highlited. Since Google is highlighted, and its max is 10 days, is that why I can see max 10 days on the chart, even though I had selected Yahoo and set it to 19 days?
  11. Hi Jerry, Thanks once again for your quick response and explaining about why diagonal trendlines cannot be used on historical charts. That makes sense. I looked into how will diagonal trendlines on intraday charts would work for my trading style. I would need say 10 to 20 days of chart to draw a trendline. I can see that the intraday chart can have a 10 day period and longer than that thru a custom period selection. However if I select a 10 day period, the chart only shows me a maximum of 1 day back - eg today on Jan 5 2016 the chart is showing me just all of January 4th and Jan 5th up to the current time (12:15 pm for me). Is it possible to show 10 days of data in the chart? Or even 20 days using the custom setting? I am using just Yahoo feed if that makes a difference. Thanks ahead of time....
  12. Hi Jerry, Thanks very much for your quick and helpful response. "In the "Other" section, you can check the box for "Separate Task Bar Icon for Child Windows (Charts, etc...) " I did this, thanks for pointing this out. "I assume you have "Child Windows on Top" checkbox already checked, right? " Yes that was already checked, I take it that is the default. "Now when the problem occurs, click on the chart's icon on the task bar. Does it come up? and does clicking on the portfolio again hide the chart? If it does, close the chart and re-open it. Does that fix it? " Unfortunately this is/was an intermittent problem and I can't reproduce it at the moment, so I am not able to answer your question. Instead I will of course let you know if it happens again..... I do have "Bring all windows to front when one window is clicked" checked. Could that have anything to do with it? I am not sure I understand this option. On a single screen, with multiple windows, only one can be shown on the front. Not sure how all windows could be brought to the front. I am wondering if all windows are being brought to front but the portfolio window is the winner and is in front of the chart window....
  13. Hi, I have the following setup: Single screen Portfolio window maximized in all directions (By that I mean it is maximized to the top, right, bottom and left of screen) Chart window on top of Portfolio window, maximized to the top, right and bottom of screen, and and about 2 inches away from the left side of screen, so that I can see the list of symbols in the Portfilio screen The 2 windows linked so that if I click on a symbol in the Portfilio window, the Chart window shows the chart for that symbol Problem Sometimes the Chart window disappears when I click on a symbol in the Portfoilio window and I dont see a way to get it back: There is only one button in the Windows task bar for it seems both the Portfolio and Chart window, so I cant click a button on the taskbar to get the Chart window back, ie it does not seem to have its own button If I right click on the Chart window (before it disappears) then I do not see a "Always on top" selection I have tried playing with selecting "bring to front" on the Chart window but that does not seem to work I think I have a similar problem as http://forums.medvedtrader.com/topic/1344-chart-keeps-vanishing/ but he/she was able to click something to get the chart back, but I dont see anything to click. I am very sorry if there is an obvious solution to this that I am missing. I used to use QT this way and did not have this problem, so I am not sure how to resolve it. Thanks ahead of time.
  14. Hi, First of all thank you so much for making MT!!!! I was a huge and grateful fan and user of QuoteTracker and have never found anything better than QT, unitl MT. I was thrilled to see that on historical charts, you have the Alert line! I tend to trade trends using trendlines as one input for making trading decisions. This works well for me. However, most of the trendlines I draw are diagonal to follow an up or down trend. It seems at the moment that the MT Alert line works only if horizontal. If I try and change it to be diagonal, MT tells me I have to delete the associated alert. Please please seriously consider making Alert lines work even if they are diagonal. It would be a huge benefit to me and anyone using trendlines to trade. Thank you for you consideration.
