Just curious how many people use Medved trader... I always have a fear in the back of my mind that one day Jerry and Mike may throw in the towel and close shop... hope that never happens.

I've thought about that too, and it's why I pitch the program / platform when the timing is right.  Once on X (then Twitter) TOS was not working and there were many frustrated peeps.  A perfect time to introduce MT (and I did).

Don't know if it gave any business to the guys, but I too have used it since QT days, back when TDA had paper trading, QT allowed me to "practice" and learn.  1998?  I can't recall exactly.

I'm old now, and set in my ways so having to learn a completely new platform is not something I care to do...

Yes, you can.  I use TOS and compared the T&S data from TOS to Schwab in MT.  The data is accurate, but aggregated per second (at best) on MT and we can no longer see each separate/tick trade. The question i have is whether or not this data will stay aggregated when it’s fixed or not.  It makes no sense because the data stream quality on TOS hasn’t changed so Schwab should be able to send the data to Medved too, just like in the past I would think?

That's my view / thought.  I've tried the TOS desktop (don't care for it) and obviously am trading through the TOS mobile app currently.

Quotes and data are there, but not being fed to the third party API.  My view is it's hamstringing the access from outside platforms to nudge (or bludgeon) users into some conformity.  I suppose, if they wanted to, that third party API access could be completely denied with a "tough luck" shrug.

Of course that would alienate many active traders.

I'm going to give this a bit more time, but if it's not 90% or better of TDA's abilities when it's "done" then I'll seek alternative brokers / feeds.

  3. I'll rest in faith on your expertise Jerry.  I really do use the full 260 days of intra day for patterns though.

So, question on that.  Will my current data archive remain intact, and just continue to update as long as I don't lose the intra day backups?  Or will it be "reset" to 35 days and not be the full 260 I have now.

News, don't care, hardly use that.

I know it's not your fault, Schwab is an old school Grey Flannel broker that somehow managed to swallow up TDA's client base.

Unfortunately.  Even the 5k minimum for spreads is crap.

P.S.  You can unblock me on Twitter / X.  I won't rant (and tag you in that) anymore.

  4. I'm really bummed this all happened.  Schwab is so much inferior to TDA in what it's offering,

Only 35 days intra day backfill?  That sucks.

They've had 6 MONTHS to get this done and still can't deliver.  Absolutely garbage delivery.

Probably be another 6 months to get bugs worked out,

I knew this would be a huge time suck when it all started happening.

  5. I see it's been mentioned once or twice before and a "we're working on it" response.  I trade vertical credit / debit spreads using SPX weeklies pretty often.  While using Medved, I have to enter the order though the TDA app on the phone.

Any kind of idea on if / when verticals might be integrated into the trade ticket?

I realize the whole TDA / Schwab thing is probably front and center on the burner, totally get it.

    Just curious.

  6. I'm a pretty active trader through TDA.  Honestly, this Schwab buyout sucks.  I have a long standing account system with 4 managed in different configs.  (Taxable margin / level 3, Two Roths and a 401k).

I just got the notification that my main Taxable will be switched on November 3rd.  The 401k was done this weekend.  The Roth(s) haven't heard a thing yet.

    Sigh...

I've thought about moving to another broker (leaving this mess behind) but really don't know who / what / why to do so.  I've become so complacent using TDA through Medved that going through it all just seems daunting and another huge time suck.

I guess I'm asking for community ideas.  Anyone just ditching Schwab and the transition to go to a different broker?  Tradestation?  Other suggestions?

TDA was such a great, complete basket, no fee data feeds, smooth transactions, great data compilation for tax filing, etc.

    Damn shame...

  7. Thanks for implementing my request for a higher daily cap.  Although it's working for individual stocks, it's not back filling the ES.

Which I don't believe is your fault, it appears that TD Ameritrade doesn't provide that tick data so far back.

As an example of WHY I want / need this...is days like today.

Fractal pattern repetition, although excruciatingly labor intensive to recognize, makes it almost like cheating when you can.

I score over 150 in pattern recognition so...it's my edge.

  8. Excellent.  As I transition to a more powerful desktop (I'm on a laptop currently) it'll be fine.  Honestly, for the most part, even with my rather low spec ancient system, MT works pretty well.  Only occasionally do I suffer some lag or stuttering.  My trading style requires a more detailed view of the underlying patterns vs the larger daily (they are repetitious in a "growing" magnitude way.  I'm honestly having a little anxiety as the 120 day limit continues to erode my data set, getting closer to removing the "top" to current trend lines and patterns.

This also brings me to a question.  I plan on a multi-monitor rig (three screens) and am leaning to a Quadro for video.  Compatible engine?

  9. It would be beneficial, even highly desirable, to have a higher daily cap rate for intra-day data, better than 120 days.  365 would be ideal.  I realize that's a big data file, but larger moves require larger data sets.

  10. UPS certainly solves the issue of power loss shutdowns.  I get that.  I suppose using some sort of automatic backup to my server (home network) would allow me to recapture long data compilations.

I didn't know if there was some setting allowing a 1 minute interval "lock" on data sets to avoid loss.

I'll fiddle around with some backup options to my main server backup drive and have it run every 12 hours, that should allow me to recover the file(s) I'd like to compile.

Will the old data (say, several months) back fill to current (new data) without truncating?  Meaning, I could just add on to the file for many months using the backup after a crash?

  11. Hey guys,

I run Medved pretty much continuously from Sunday 6:00 pm EST to Friday 5:00 pm EST.

I do it to gather data, accumulating, for pattern use.

The most frustrating part of my use is unexpected shutdowns, whether power out or freezing, Medved data checking and recovery causes data loss collected over weeks of use.

I primarily track @ES, with SPX option strikes sometimes two months out.  "Crashing" wipes it all out, particularly the options as there's no back fill, but also ES intraday data, with limits on back fill.

Ideally, I'd like 5 minute ES for a year back intraday, BUT, I'd be happy with collected data on my machine NOT being wiped because of a crash.

Why?  I use Wave Theory in pattern and have discovered some repetitions that I like to cross check in analysis.  Killing my data base with error checking after crash prevents that.

    I use AMTD data feed.

    Work arounds?  Ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jim

  12. Hey guys,

I continue to have an issue with the @ES window closing spontaneously.  I really notice it when I get an email pop up in the tray, it'll close the ES window every time.

    Win 7 Pro    TDA feeds

I'm talking about the intraday, not the historical (although it might be doing that too).

No other symbol or ticker does this, only the ES intraday.

    Clue?

    Thanks,

    James

  13. Thanks Sir!

As I said, this was an issue across different stock symbols and different strikes, both put or call.

I got the sense that MT was talking a different language than Robinhood, but the correct language for Ameritrade (because I can trade through MT to Ameritrade no problem).

I'll try it out again, on different actual trades and see how it goes.

    Thanks again.

  14. Hey guys,

So MT is working ok with selling positions I have in a Robinhood account (yeah, I know, but it's a side account I used for hyper spec trades), but I can't seem to initiate (open to buy or sell) an option trade.

I use the Ameritrade Data feed (main account).

With all the new sign ups in Robinhood being reported, it might be fruitful for MT to work a little smoother through the Robinhood API.

Just a thought, I've tried several times over different days on different stocks to buy calls or puts but get an error.

Window shot attached as an example try (just now) so you can see.
