texastrading
Hi I am having problem placing an etrade order through Medved Trader. It is my first time trading using Medved Trader to trade with Etrade. The error message would say "new order failed: you have an existing open order for this secuirity on the same side of the market." Any idea how to fix this problem? TIA
Jerry Medved
Unfortunately, this is a known issue with E*Trade API. We have reported it to them multiple times, but they have not fixed it. when you get that error, there is no other order. It’s a false error. There is nothing we can do for it on our end. I will try emailing them again.

texastrading
Another question Jerry is why the balance and open orders so very slow to update? I am getting at least 30secs to a full minute for update/status delay.
Jerry Medved
E*Trade trading setup is not streaming. MT has to poll constantly to get updates. Balances are updated every minute unless MT detects a change in positions. Orders are updated updated every minute if there are no open orders or every 3 seconds if there are open orders. If you are placing the orders via MT, it would know when a new open order comes in and would switch to the 3 second update. However if you placed the order outside of MT and there were no already open orders, MT would not know about open orders until the next time it updates, so there would be a delay. I suspect that is what happened? did you enter the order outside of MT? Also, note that you can force a refresh on the account view window. Just hit F5 (or click the REFRESH button) while on the TRANSACTIONS tab. That forces immediate refresh. Same for balances tab. We would love to have streaming account updates. However, E*Trade has not updated their API in over a decade....
texastrading
It's still giving the same problem entering order either from the web or from Medved Trader. I guess the only way to update it is to manually refresh every second. Thanks for the help Jerry.
Jerry Medved
same problem - the error or delayed? If delayed, can you send me the log. Go to FILE / HELP => Send Log/Settings to support menu (from Dashboard or Portfolio) And add this Post’s URL in the comment. Do not check any check-boxes. Jerry Medved
FINALLY Tracked down and fixed the problem. with no help from E*Trade. Can't believe they couldn't tell us the cause of this before. It was a simple thing with internal client order ID. However, the error message has NOTHING to do with the actual problem I emailed you. And updated MT for others...
