edward40
I have been using Yahoo delayed - seems to print during the day. I want to verify some setups with a better datafeed supplier I mainly want Emini YM ES etc - TICK TRIN - is my only option IQ FEED? If so whats the cheapest way to get that? Jerry Medved
Right now IB and IQFeed are the only other options. Only way to reduce the cost for IQFEED is if you have an IB account - there is something about eliminating exchange fees. IQFeed support guys would know the details. edward40
Ok thank - I really don't want to park 10k with IB just to get data. At that point I suppose their data would suffice. I will have to bite the bullet and get a month of IQ Feed as a test. Thanks jerry
edward40
I am on IQ at the moment - very different from a filtered feed. I may like a filtered feed better. I will see how it goes.

alextrader777
Hi Jerry, 1. What is "Smart Source Selector"? How it works? 2. Are Yahoo and Google feeds are real time and streaming? I am getting different quotes in historical vs intraday charts.
Jerry Medved
Yahoo and Google are NOT real-time or streaming. the quotes for Yahoo are auto refresh. Both are delayed.
alextrader777
IB feed real time and streaming? How many days of intraday charts can I get with IB?
Jerry Medved
IB - Yes, only real-time quotes from IB. If you do not subscribe for a particular exchange and try to get quotes, if you use their TWS, it will get you delayed data, but via the API which MT has to use, it can only get the real-time stuff. IB Backfill is for 10 days. MT though can store whatever you want. (well, up to 120) so as time goes by, it will build up the data.
alextrader777
I have just openned IB acct, and their new data subscription is a bit confusing. If i only want to trade stocks from Nasdaq and NYSE, so I can subscribe to Nasdaq Level 1 and NYSE Level 1, but they also have now US Value Bundle which includes BATS Exchanges, but without NYSE and Nasdaq. Can you give a suggestion about these subscriptions?
Jerry Medved
No, sorry, it would be best to contact their support about that. They can give you the details. You definitely want to have NYSE and NASDAQ..
alextrader777
If using IB feed, what is the purpose of "Smart Source Selector"?
Jerry Medved
if Smart Source Selector is selected for backfill for example, MT will try to find the best choice for the backfill source. It will look at currently active streamers that support backfill to see if they are already streaming the symbol. If not, it will check ones that are active but not streaming the symbol. If not, then go on to ones that are configured (but not active) that support backfill. It is particularly useful if using multiple datafeeds in different portfolios. alextrader777
But with IB feed I just choose IB source, and I dont need "Smart Source Selector", is it right? Or you still reccomend to use "Smart Source Selector"?
Jerry Medved
Yes, you can do that.
alextrader777
Can I use IB data feed without configuring IB trading accounts? If yes, how should I do that, because data source for IB doesn't ask to log in?
gidielle
Can I use IB data feed without configuring IB trading accounts? yes
Jerry Medved
with IB, you don't enter login into MT. You have to start TWS and enable the API in TWS. And preferably, specify 127.0.0.1 as a "Safe IP Address", though that part is optional (that way TWS will not prompt every time MT has to connect). Then MT just connects to TWS. So login occurs in TWS and MT connects to whatever account you logged in with into TWS.
alextrader777
Is IB Historical back-fill better than Google? Let's say I backfill Historical data for SMH with IB. But it only gives me 3 years of data. Then I want to see more, and backfill with Google without clearing the data from IB. This time it gives me 15 years of data. Will it add Google data to IB data, meaning that the last 3 years is still IB data, or the whole data is now from Google?
Jerry Medved
in your example, the Google data will be added to IB's data. MT is configured to get 10 years of IB hist data. Don't know about better - not aware of any issues with IB data other than the 10 year limitation which some find constraining.
alextrader777
is it possible to copy the collected data between two computers? any specific file for a specific ticker symbol?
Jerry Medved
easiest thing to do is in MT select FILE / EXPORT and check the QUOTE DATA option (and whatever else you want), then copy the exported file to the other computer, start MT and select FILE / Import...
