mdr Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 When I use Medved Trader on Mac OS X (El Capitan) via Parallels with multiple virtual desktops open, the Medved application windows often randomly(?) move to other virtual desktops as I move among the desktops. None of the other applications that I run via Parallels, e.g., TOS, Excel, Option Net Explorer, exhibit this behavior. Is there any way for me to stop this undesired behavior. (I prefer that the Medved application windows remain in the virtual desktop in which they are first invoked.) Thanks. mdr Quote
Jerry Medved Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 Virtual Destops messes with Windows positions to simulate the desktops. Because of the way MT creates each window in it's own thread, it has to do its own window management and my guess is that the stuff virtual desktip os doing is interfering with the stuff MT is doing. You can turn off MT's stuff, but that will make it a bit harder to manage windows, depending on how you lay them out. in MT go to SETTINGS / APPLICATION / GENERAL. In the OTHER section, uncheck the "Bring All Windows to Front When One Window is clicked". NOTE: If you do that, I strongly suggest checking both checkboxes for the "Separate Task Bar Icon.... ". Otherwise you will end up losing windows behind others with no easy way to get them back Quote
mdr Posted August 28, 2016 Author Report Posted August 28, 2016 Jerry, Thanks for the extremely quick response. Unfortunately, your suggested solution doesn't seem to help, at least not for me. However, while trying out your suggested solution, I believe that I came across (or stumbled upon) a workaround. In particular, the issue only seems to arise if a Medved application window is selected/highlighted when I switch virtual desktops. It appears that the Medved application windows remain in whichever virtual desktop they were last selected. So a simple workaround is simply to select, i.e, click, on something other than a Medved window before switching virtual desktops Finally, I should note that I'm using Parallels in its "Coherence" mode. In this mode, Parallels hides the Windows background and makes each open Windows application behave like a Mac application, thereby allowing the user to move the (Windows) application windows to different virtual desktops and physical displays. Thanks again for your help. mdr Quote
Jerry Medved Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 I see. Never really tested it in that mode Quote
mdr Posted August 28, 2016 Author Report Posted August 28, 2016 In that case, you will likely be interested in knowing that Medved Trader works great (for me) on an iMac running under Parallels (11) Coherence and Windows 10 with TD Ameritrade and IB as data sources. . . .except for this one issue for which we now have a simple workaround! Mike Medved Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 Good to know, mdr. People ask us all the time if Medved Trader runs on Macs. Well yes it does - but it costs a bit. Parallels is $80. Win10 is $120 So it's $200. Cost with VMWare is same. But you get the capability of running all the Windows programs (not just MT). Historically, most stock market software concentrated on PCs. Probably because of PC market share. MT is written in C#, and is not easy to "port" to IOS. There are some methods, but they are incomplete. It would be a LOT of work to do it, not sure if it could be done fully, and what's the point when you can already run it on a Mac using the above software. Quote
