stock777
I would have expected it to cancel , but it was still open today. This is on ameritrade
stock777
For clarity, order was placed last night, still live this am
Jerry Medved
First, we do not control that. It is a broker issue Second - if you place a day order after the close of regular session, it applies to the next session
stock777
Kind of confusing, as IB TWS cancels all orders placed before 8PM that same day, unless you're using GTC So I'd have to specify DAY+EXT to get it to only be for the same day ? Jerry Medved
Figures it would be IB. With them, they may have expired the order but not sent an update on the API, so if the order is closed in TWS and still open in MT, if you hit F5 you should get it updated (or if you restart MT)
stock777
To be clear on this, I was referring to TWS native, not through Medved. They must default to Day + Ext on orders entered after hours . I see Ameritrade will timeout Day + Ext ( placed after 4pm) on the same day, but a straight DAY order carries over to the next day. PS Whats's the Day* order I see in the dropdown ? Edited November 9, 2021 by stock777
Jerry Medved
Day* is an MT thing- with that selected orders placed prior to 4:00 PM will be sent as DAY. after that, DAY+Ext. This was done because there were some things not available if Day+Ext was selected during the day
stock777
So actually, that DAY* would behave the same as TWS , where day orders placed anytime expire the same day. Correct?
Jerry Medved
depends on when you place the order. Day* is not a recognized TIF by any broker. It gets converted by MT to DAY or DAY+EXT at the time of sending the order.
