  1. bigdec, the question I posed was: where would MT take the value of the 50 daily SMA from? It cannot calculate it from the intraday data. It can only calculate it from the historical data for the symbol, and there is no guarantee that the historical data is there or that it is up to date. If you never opened a historical chart for the symbol, and never backfilled on the historical chart, or if you did that, but a few days ago and not since, MT would have no way to calculate the value. What *you* could do, if you wanted to, would be to open a historical chart for the symbol, put a 50 day SMA on it, note the value, then put a horizontal line indicator on the intraday chart with that value. Yes, it is a bit of work, but you would only have to do that once per day.
  2. bigdec: here's the problem: where will MT get that info? Granted, if there is up-to-date historical data stored for the symbol, it could be calculated from that. But there is absolutely no guarantee that there is.
  3. bigdec: what does "daily SMA" mean in this case? MT can show you a lot of days of data on intraday charts. A session for a stock is 6.5h = 390 minutes. If you do SMA(1170) on a 1-min chart, that would be a "3 day SMA". If you have 20 or so days on your chart, that SMA would be pretty accurate.
  4. gidielle: social media. Twitter, facebook, instagram, stocktwits, email, etc etc etc. PITA.
  5. Thank you DavidE. Jerry and I are discussing what the most graceful way of resolving this is.
  6. ydfah, if you do, we will happily include the color scheme in MT. The problem with letting users edit it in general, as Jerry said, is that the colors need to be finely balanced with each other. Charts are easier
  7. Changed Events indicator, allowing to show Letters E D or S instead of star, and setting placement of indicator. Will be in next beta release.
  8. Send me (support@medvedtrader.com) a pic of the indicator from that other system on some stock - let's say MSFT 1 day historical chart. Make sure to use the "high/low" setting on the indicator. Tell me what the parameters are. I will check on it.
  9. I am pretty sure that in MT, if you choose Volatility Trend indicator with the High/Low period of 1, and SMA or EMA type of smoothing for ATR, you will get that indicator.
  10. To add to Jerry's post, the reason *why* the chart trading capsules snap to certain increments are: 1. There *has* to be some granularity otherwise you cannot drag the price precisely to the value you want. 2. Brokerages reject orders where prices are not on certain increments.
  11. LBR 3 10 oscillator is exactly the same as MACD with parameters 3, 10 and 16, and the "MA Type" of SMA.
  12. mlsignups, what you're talking about are MDI-compliant interfaces (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_document_interface) We deliberately did NOT go with that. It is too constricting and inflexible. QT was not MDI, neither is MT now. We will investigate to see if it is possible to do "container windows" as Jerry posted above. There is a complication in that each window in MT runs in its own thread (to make them more responsive and to have them utilize your multiple CPUs to the fullest), which may cause problems when they all belong to one parent window. Will see.
  13. Annotations on charts are stored per chart "type" - that is, if it's a regular candle chart, and you draw a line, then switch it to a tick chart, the line will not show. When you switch back to candle chart, it will show. So if, when you change templates, your chart type changes, that is what is causing the annotations to disappear.
  14. Fib Expansions will be added to chart annotations in next release.
  15. nasdorq: the annotations (trendlines included) have a "Show Behind Chart" option when you edit them. Also - about fib. extensions - I know of them as the above-100% values for fib. retracements (which you can do in MT). Can you point me to some URL describing what you have in mind?
  16. Please close MT, then login on RBC website to make sure the login has not been locked out. Then restart MT. If it still fails to login, please email us at our support email.
  17. Found. Fixed. Thanks for the report. I love our users. Without you that kind of bug would have been in there forever.

    Ram usage

stock777: as long as you have 60 days of data in the chart (even if only a few days visible) that takes memory. Indicators (if a lot) take memory. 150 active symbols do. But even then, a lot of that memory is swapped out and "inactive", even if it shows in your Task Manager, so should not bog your system down.

stock777 - how many charts open? Do they all have 60 days?
  20. Pivots are calculated from the day's Open, Close, High and Low. Those are calculated from the collected data for the day. If the data differs from computer to computer, for whatever reason, the pivots will also differ. The data may differ because it comes from different sources, or because there was a break in data etc.
  21. The MACD scales are naturally very different for the Histogram vs. the two lines from which the Histogram is built. The scale you see when MT plots the MACD is the lines' scale. The Histogram is not on that scale. It "floats" to fit as much of it into the Y scale as possible. Its 0 is where the crossovers occur, and is pretty obvious, thus it doesn't really need to coincide with the 0 on the right-side Y scale. In fact, AFAIU, the actual values of the two lines from which MACD is built are not really relevant. Neither are the actual values of the Histogram. It is the above/below 0 for the histogram (which are the crossovers for the two lines) that is important. If you *really* want the 0s to coincide, here's the way: Put two indicators at the bottom: MACD and MACD Histogram. Uncheck the "Show Histogram" parameter on the MACD. Link the two indicators.
  22. As soon as we release production, these notifications (SMS, twitter, facebook, etc etc) are on our to-do list.
  23. johnk - thanks for the report. We found/fixed the problem. Will be in next release.
  24. Jerry and I discuss (and argue about) user interface features all the time. What you see is the result of a lot of consideration.
